TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 13, 2019) - Holland & Knight will devote significant pro bono resources to support the Governor's Initiative on Lawyers Assisting Warriors (GI LAW), a new program announced by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on April 18. The initiative aims to leverage the talent of Florida's leading law firms to provide legal services to military members.
"I'm proud to be able to lead this remarkable effort to provide our active duty service members free legal services from some of the best law firms in our state," said Governor Ron DeSantis. "This is a big win for our service members and our military here in Florida and I commend all those involved for their commitment to our military."
Holland & Knight Partner Bob Grammig will serve on the GI LAW steering committee, which is led by Chuck Faircloth, General Counsel of the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs.
"We are privileged to be part of this program," said Mr. Grammig. "Holland & Knight has had strong involvement in pro bono military assistance programs over the years and we are confident that we can render services on a wide range of issues throughout the state of Florida. We share the governor's goal of making Florida the most military-friendly state in the nation and this program is a small, but important part of making that goal a reality."
Through GI LAW, Florida's active-duty men and women will receive free legal counsel in a variety of civil matters, including actions in local courts. Florida-based law firms Akerman, Greenberg Traurig, Gunster and Shutts & Bowen were also selected by the governor to participate.
